Ryobi ONE+ 18V Battery Compatibility

Ryobi’s ONE+ 18V system is the world’s largest 18-volt cordless tool platform, powering over 300 tools with a single battery interface. Launched in 1996, ONE+ uses a universal slide-on connector — every ONE+ battery ever made still works with every ONE+ tool ever made. That backward compatibility makes it the go-to platform for DIYers and homeowners, and it’s exclusively available at The Home Depot in the US.

Compatibility Rules

The Ryobi ONE+ system uses a universal battery interface. Every 18V ONE+ battery — whether a 1.5 Ah compact pack or a 6.0 Ah HIGH PERFORMANCE cell — physically fits and powers every ONE+ tool. There is no lockout, no firmware restriction, and no generation limit. A battery bought in 2024 works in a tool from 2004, and vice versa.

However, Ryobi’s HIGH PERFORMANCE batteries (identifiable by their teal-coloured casing) deliver additional power and runtime when used in ONE+ HP brushless tools. Standard batteries still work in HP tools — they just won’t unlock the maximum performance ceiling those tools are designed for.

Charger Notes

All Ryobi ONE+ 18V chargers work with all ONE+ 18V batteries regardless of chemistry (Li-ion or NiCad) or capacity. The main difference between chargers is speed:
