Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Makita batteries in DeWalt tools?

No — Makita and DeWalt batteries are not directly interchangeable. The battery slots, voltage regulation, and communication protocols are different. However, you can use battery adapters to bridge between brands (with some limitations).

Will a 5.0 Ah battery make my drill more powerful?

No — battery capacity (Ah) affects runtime, not power output. A 5.0 Ah battery will last longer than a 2.0 Ah but won’t spin the drill faster. The tool’s motor determines power. Read our full guide: Can I use a higher Ah battery?

Are third-party replacement batteries safe to use?

It depends on the manufacturer. Look for UL or CE certifications, proper BMS (Battery Management System), and genuine cell brands. Our guide covers what to look for in aftermarket batteries.

What does FLEXVOLT mean on DeWalt batteries?

FLEXVOLT is DeWalt’s auto-switching battery technology. The same pack operates at 20V in 20V MAX tools and 60V in 60V MAX tools — adjusting voltage based on the tool it’s connected to. See our FLEXVOLT compatibility guide for full details.
