Fein Multi-Tool Blade Compatibility

Fein Multi-Tool Blade Compatibility

Fein invented the oscillating multi-tool in 1967, and they co-developed the Starlock blade system with Bosch in 2016. As the original creators, Fein has the deepest heritage in multi-tool accessories — but the transition from OIS to Starlock means older Fein tools and newer ones use different blade systems. This guide covers every generation.

Quick Answer

Fein multi-tools use the Starlock system (which Fein co-developed with Bosch). All Starlock, StarlockPlus, and StarlockMax blades are compatible.

Fein’s Starlock Advantage

As co-developer of Starlock, Fein produces some of the highest-quality oscillating blades on the market. Fein’s Starlock accessories are fully interchangeable with Bosch Starlock tools — and with any other brand that has adopted Starlock (Makita DTM52, Hikoki, Metabo, etc.).

Fein’s blade range is particularly strong in specialist areas: carbide-grit grout blades, diamond-coated blades for tile, and the E-Cut series for precision wood and metal cutting. If you own any Starlock tool from any brand, Fein blades are well worth considering.

The SuperCut Exception

Fein’s older SuperCut range uses a proprietary mounting system that is not Starlock and not OIS. If you own a SuperCut tool, you need Fein SuperCut-specific blades — or the Fein 35222952050 adapter, which allows you to use Starlock blades on SuperCut tools. This adapter is essential if you want access to the modern Starlock accessory range.

Common Questions

Can I use Bosch Starlock blades on my Fein?

Yes — full cross-compatibility. Bosch and Fein co-developed Starlock together, and all Starlock blades from either brand work interchangeably on any Starlock tool.

My old MultiMaster blades don’t fit my new one. What happened?

Pre-2016 MultiMaster models use OIS, while post-April 2016 models use Starlock. The blade interfaces are different. Your new Starlock MultiMaster cannot accept old OIS blades. However, any new Starlock blades you buy will work on both your old OIS tool (backwards-compatible) and your new Starlock tool.
