Recommended pack: Grinders are among the highest-draw M18 tools. A 5.0Ah XC is the practical minimum, and a HIGH OUTPUT pack sustains wheel speed best under heavy grinding or cutting. Compact packs underperform and sag.
Compatibility caveats: All M18 packs fit; capacity and output are what matter. The HIGH OUTPUT advantage is an engineering inference, not a Milwaukee-stated requirement.
If it won’t start or cuts out: Loss of wheel speed or cut-out under load means the pack is too small or has overheated — fit a 5.0Ah+ and let a hot pack cool.
Runtime: No official figure; high-draw work drains packs quickly, so expect short sessions on compact packs.
Versus the adjacent model: Along with the circular saw and rotary hammer, this is a top-tier draw — it should always have your largest pack, never a compact one.
