What Battery Does the DeWalt DCD791 Use?
The DeWalt DCD791 runs on the DeWalt 20V MAX battery platform. Any DeWalt 20V MAX or 20V MAX XR battery will work with this drill, and FLEXVOLT 60V MAX batteries are also backward-compatible.
About the DeWalt DCD791
The DeWalt DCD791 is a compact 20V MAX XR brushless drill/driver with a high-performance brushless motor delivering up to 70 N·m of torque. It features a 13mm metal ratcheting chuck, 2-speed settings (0-550 / 0-2,000 RPM), and LED work light. At just 1.59kg (bare tool), it is one of the lightest drills in its class.

Recommended Battery
DCB204 or DCB205 — The DCD791 is a compact, lightweight drill. A 4.0Ah or 5.0Ah battery delivers excellent runtime while keeping the overall tool weight manageable for overhead work and tight spaces.
Minimum Battery
DCB201 (1.5Ah) — The DCD791’s efficient brushless motor runs well even on compact batteries. A 1.5Ah pack suits light-duty tasks and keeps the drill at its lightest.
Battery Compatibility Notes
All DeWalt 20V MAX batteries share the same rail-mount system and will physically fit the DCD791. DeWalt FLEXVOLT batteries (DCB606, DCB609, DCB612) are also backward-compatible and will run this tool at 20V.
Higher Ah ratings mean longer runtime, not more power. All compatible batteries deliver the same 20V MAX output.

Recommended pack: Moderate draw — a 2.0Ah for handling, a 5.0Ah for runtime.
Compatibility caveats: Brushless motor; drill/driver only — NO hammer mode (unlike the DCD996). 70Nm.
If it won’t start or cuts out: A flat or unseated pack is the usual non-start cause.
Runtime: No per-charge figure published.
Versus the adjacent model: The lighter sibling of the DCD996 — pick the 791 for daily drilling and driving, the 996 when you need hammer/masonry.
