DeWalt DCD996 20V MAX XR Brushless 3-Speed Hammer Drill

What Battery Does the DeWalt DCD996 Use?

The DeWalt DCD996 runs on the DeWalt 20V MAX battery platform. Any DeWalt 20V MAX or 20V MAX XR battery will work with this tool, and FLEXVOLT 60V MAX batteries are also backward-compatible.

About the DeWalt DCD996

The DeWalt DCD996 is a premium 20V MAX XR brushless 3-speed hammer drill delivering up to 95 N·m of torque. It features a 13mm metal ratcheting chuck, 3-speed settings for optimised application speed, and a high-power hammer action for drilling into concrete and masonry. The brushless motor provides up to 57% more runtime than brushed alternatives.

Compatible Batteries for the DeWalt DCD996

All DeWalt 20V MAX batteries are compatible with the DCD996. FLEXVOLT batteries also work via backward compatibility.

Recommended Battery

DCB205 or DCB206 — The hammer drill draws heavy power during percussion mode. A 5.0Ah or 6.0Ah battery ensures you can drill multiple holes in concrete without battery swaps.

Minimum Battery

DCB204 — A 4.0Ah battery handles standard drilling and light hammering, but will drain quickly during sustained percussion drilling in masonry.

Battery Compatibility Notes

All DeWalt 20V MAX batteries share the same rail-mount system and will physically fit the DCD996. FLEXVOLT batteries (DCB606, DCB609, DCB612) are backward-compatible and will run this tool at 20V.

Higher Ah ratings mean longer runtime, not more power. All compatible batteries deliver the same 20V MAX output.
