Recommended Battery
DCB205 or DCB206 — Angle grinders are among the most power-hungry 20V tools. A 5.0Ah or 6.0Ah battery is essential for any sustained grinding or cutting work.
Minimum Battery
DCB204 — A 4.0Ah battery works for intermittent grinding, but expect very short runtime during continuous use.
Battery Compatibility Notes
All DeWalt 20V MAX batteries share the same rail-mount system. FLEXVOLT batteries are backward-compatible at 20V. Higher Ah ratings mean longer runtime, not more power.

Battery sizing, runtime & troubleshooting
Recommended pack: Grinding is high-draw; a 5.0Ah+ sustains wheel speed, while a 2.0Ah sags.
Compatibility caveats: This is a BRUSHED motor (replaceable carbon brushes) — don’t describe it as brushless or expect brushless runtime. 7,000 rpm.
If it won’t start or cuts out: Speed loss or cut-out under load means the pack is too small or has overheated — fit a 5.0Ah+ and let a hot pack cool.
Runtime: No figure published; high-draw work drains packs fast.
Versus the adjacent model: One of the hungriest XR tools — along with the recip saw and SDS hammer it should always get your largest pack.
