Understanding Milwaukee M18 Batteries
All Milwaukee M18 batteries use the same slide-on connection and are compatible with every M18 tool. Milwaukee also offers HIGH OUTPUT and FORGE cell tiers that deliver more sustained power under heavy load. These are not indicated by the CP marking. CP, XC and HD describe the pack’s size class; REDLITHIUM, HIGH OUTPUT and FORGE describe the cell technology. The two combine — Milwaukee sells a HIGH OUTPUT CP3.0 as well as a plain REDLITHIUM CP2.0 — so read the tier name, not the size code. Note also that Milwaukee’s dual-battery tools (the M18 F2 and ONEF2 range) require two packs to run at all.

Using a HIGH OUTPUT battery in a basic M18 drill provides a smaller benefit than it does in a high-draw tool — Milwaukee states HIGH OUTPUT delivers up to 50% more power, but a low-draw drill will not ask for it — just the same runtime as an equivalent standard capacity battery.
Are Milwaukee M18 batteries compatible with Packout?
Milwaukee’s PACKOUT-compatible charger is the M18 PACKOUT Six Bay Rapid Charger, 48-59-1809. (48-59-1811 is the M18 & M12 Super Charger, which Milwaukee does not describe as PACKOUT-integrating.) In the UK the current chargers are the M18 DFC, M18 DBSC and the multi-voltage M12-18 FC, which Milwaukee states “recharges all M18, M14 and M12 REDLITHIUM battery packs”. Standard M18 batteries can also be mounted in various PACKOUT configurations using Packout battery mounts.
